Do I need a prenatal lactation appointment?

There are many reasons why a prenatal lactation appointment can be helpful. As with any big life change that we have yet to experience, it’s tough to know what we don’t know.

A prenatal lactation appointment gives clients the opportunity to:

  • Ask questions and review, with an experienced lactation professional, what they already know about lactation.

  • Share their lactation plan with someone who is experienced, qualified and able to give them guidance on their plan.

  • Review lactation equipment to ensure parents have everything they might need before they need it. If clients already have a breast pump, the prenatal lactation appointment is a great time to bring that pump and review usage and cleaning techniques.

Prenatal lactation appointments aren’t just for first time moms either. Moms who have had difficulty with previous breastfeeding experiences may want to review what worked or didn’t work for them in the past. Such a visit allows them to receive guidance on creating an altogether new lactation experience this time around.

Prenatal lactation appointments are also great for setting up that client/provider relationship. These hour long appointments allow you to get to know your provider and them to know you. When you call to make an appointment after the baby is here, you are already known to us and we will always find time to see you and baby.
